UNIX

UNiplexed Information and Computing Service

A popular multi user, multi tasking, computer operating system originally developed in 1969. UNIX is widely used on servers and is the basis of all major modern operating systems (e.g. Apple Macintosh, Linux), except for Microsoft Windows.
